Resident drop in sessions

Resident drop in sessions

In addition to the regular drop-in sessions we run in New Addington and Thornton Heath, the team are trialling new drop ins in Croydon town centre and Purley until the end of the year.

At the hubs, home owners and private renters can get advice about government and energy company schemes offer grant funded insulation and other energy measures. Our Advisors can advise residents how to change settings on their heating controls to heat their homes more effectively, and other bespoke energy advice. They can offer advice about different ways to pay for gas and electricity, understanding energy bills and tariffs, and provide practical advice to residents who are struggling to pay for their energy. They can also advise about priority support available to vulnerable residents, and water bill discounts. Residents looking for advice about energy bills and tariffs should bring a copy of their latest gas, electricity, and water bill or statement when they come to the hub.

Online group workshops

Due to the expected pressure on the service during the colder months, the team are trying to help more residents through our regular group Zoom workshops. In these workshops we are able to explain issues in more detail than during one to one advice sessions, and are perfect for resident who are looking for general advice about energy issues. We appreciate not everyone is comfortable asking for help from a Council service, and we are happy for residents not to provide their real/full names when signing up, and they can attend without turning on their camera or microphone. We can take questions during the sessions, and residents can sign up for one to one sessions afterwards where appropriate.

As well as advice for residents they are a good way for front-line colleagues to learn more about the service and the type of support we can offer. We are happy for colleagues who are not Croydon residents to also attend, but please let us know if you are booking as a non-Croydon resident by sending an email to healthyhomes@croydon.gov.uk (you still need to book a place via Eventbrite)

Croydon Healthy Homes is funded as a private sector only advice service (for home owners and private renters), and have only very limited capacity to help Council and Housing Association tenants, especially over the colder months where there is high demand on the service. We are therefore particularly keen that colleagues signpost Council and Housing Association tenants to these workshops, rather to request one to one support.

There are two workshops which last about an hour each. More information about the sessions is on our www.croydon.gov.uk/energyevents page, and on the page is a link to the Eventbrite pages to book. We have a flyer for the workshops which is attached.

  • Workshop 1 – Heating, insulation and condensation
  • Workshop 2 – Energy tariffs and bill support

The team are able to also run bespoke presentations/workshops to groups of Croydon residents which can be online or in person. If you are involved with a community group, or a front-line service and would like to us to talk to the clients of your group/service, please contact us to discuss. Please email healthyhomes@croydon.gov.uk

Booking one to one support

Where a resident is not able to attend an online session, or has a more complex issues and requires a one to one conversation with the team, please continue to help them to apply for one to one help from Croydon Healthy Homes. The best way to do this is online through our www.croydon.gov.uk/healthyhomes page. Online applications go straight into our system, so can be allocated straight away.

We also have the paper application forms which can be scanned/photographed and emailed to healthyhomes@croydon.gov.uk or posted to us. Please ensure residents sign the form.

There is also our 08002922529 answering phone service. If passing on this number to our resident, please explain to residents they need to leave a message, and to expect a delay of a few days before we attempt to call them back.
