Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve. They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and publish what they find. The CQC also protect the interests of vulnerable people.

They have a range of powers to use to take action if people are getting poor care.
Now by law all GP practices must be registered with the CQC to make sure that the standards of care and treatment provided meets national standards of quality and safety. The CQC will inspect GP practices to make sure these standards are met.
